Phenomenal Trade at Herd Dispersal

The herd sale on behalf of the Hall family of Sudbury, Derbyshire attracted a fantastic crowd with trade setting off at an electric pace that continued throughout the day.

A massive 75 passed the £2000 mark, 60 of those been milkers with prices peaking at £2700.

Topping the day at £2700 was a fresh calved heifer by ABS Onyx to Messrs Hammersley of Thurvaston. Hot in pursuit at £2620 was a milking heifer by ABS Eldridge. Due in August with her second she was clinched by Messrs Holland of Sudbury who went on to make a number of other choice purchases.

The blistering trade for milk saw them all average £1753 without calves and £1831 with.

In-calf heifers were similarly sought after peaking at £2420, 14 passing £2000 and all 62 averaging just short of £1700.

Young calves reached £490 with all 430 lives sold averaging an amazing £1313.

HEIFERS TO £2260 X 2

Trade continues to remain solid for dairies with the entry on Tuesday selling extremely well.

Two heifers topped at £2260, the first from the Shepherd family of Bakewell and the second from John Stone of Onecote. Cows also from the Shepherds topped at £2120.

Trade was consistent throughout with the majority of the entry between £1700-£2000 with all milkers including a number with faults averaging £1790.

Shieldhouse Dispersal to £3000 with 31 £2000+

A very large crowd gathered for the Dispersal of the Shieldhouse Herd of Holsteins and A-Shieldhouse Herd of Ayrshires on behalf of the Weston Family of Roston, Ashbourne. They were no doubt drawn by the real quality on offer which saw a top price of £3000 and the entire herd average a superb £1831.

Topping the day was a fresh second calver by De Vlottenburg Fantasy. She had given 9711kg in her heifer lactation. Sold giving 45kg she went to the Minshall family of Tean.

Hot in pursuit at £2800 was a February calved third calver by Nafta. Due in again in January to Dynamite she was giving a massive 52kg and went to John Bayley of Nuneaton. Another second calver by Fantasy calved in February reached £2560 to a Stafford purchaser.

Ayrshires topped at £2360 for a milking heifer due again in November to Ryland Red to Messrs Sales of Leek.

In total 29 passed the £2000 barrier to average out an exceptional £1831 which included some with faults.

The commercial section saw a mixed quality forward which sold to a very strong trade topping at £2400 for second calver from Phillip Brocklehurst of Mobberley with heifers from John Stone of Onecote to £2100.

Overall the strong trade continues to hold if not improve. Please get in touch if you have stock to sell.

Another blistering trade in the Dairy Shed on Tuesday saw both cows and heifers soaring above £2800 again and 11 in excess of £2000. The whole commercial entry including a number with faults averaged £1737.

Topping the day in the Commercial Section was a superb heifer from the Meldamar Herd of the Shepherd family of Bakewell. A Westcoast Alcove daughter, she was sold giving 38.4kg and went to Andrew Hulme of Basford.

Another from the same home by Seagull-Bay MVP reached £2580 to J Bayley of Nuneaton who also took a second calver at £2180. Andrew Hulme went on to take another Alcove daughter at £2460.

The Riley family of Longnor saw their 31kg heifer reach £2360, with Messrs Platts of Hope Valley seeing their two heifers make £2140 and £2260 respectively.

The herd sale on behalf of James Harrison of Cheadle despite including a number of older cows sold exceptionally well. He topped the days trade with a third calver by Fontaine. Calved in April and giving 54kg she was eventually clinched by John Bayley at £2860 with another third calver by Mozzarella making £2500 to the same home.

The last lot of the day, an impressive second calver by Fontaine reached £2620 to A J Minshall, Tean.

The retirement dispersal on behalf of the Brassington family at Blakelow Farm at Hilderstone attracted interest from North Wales, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire together with Wiltshire as well as all surrounding counties.

The McHale equipment attracted wide interest with the McHale F540 Round Baler at £10,300 and the McHale 991 BE Trailed Wrapper at £7,000.

There had been a lot of pre-sale interest in the Massey Ferguson 165 which had been on the holding for many decades after spirited bidding this multi-power version on an L Plate achieved £5,800 to a Staffordshire collector.

The Case JXU 105 c/w Quicke Loader and Damaged Cab sold locally for £16,800 with the Dieci 26.6 Agri Farm Turbo Telehandler c/w Q Fit Headstock selling at £14,200 to a dairy farmer within two villages of the sale field.

There had been a lot of pre-sale interest in both the 16 Ton Esme Mobile Dryer and the Terex Fermec Digger Loader. The Dryer eventually went to Darlington at £23,400 with the 860 Fermec Digger showing 8,762 hours registered on a 53’ Plate achieving a massive £19,000 and purchased by a Yorkshire Haulage Contractor.

The stars of the show were undoubtedly the tractors from the Dore family were very well kept;

The Manitou MLT 737-130 PS Premium Telehandler had been owned from new and was sold with Pallet Tines showing 2,517 Hours on sale day and registered on a 68’ Plate. It achieved a massive £58,000 and was purchased to go into Derbyshire.
