Leek Market Report

A fine but windy day in Leek saw a relatively strong trade throughout.

An increased entry on recent weeks for the Barren section, seeing a good trade with plenty of competition from the buyers.

A smaller entry of Lambs but a strong trade with best Lambs up to 310p/kg. A strong entry of Cull Sheep seeing the best to £150.

A good entry of Dairies seeing a top price of £2940 with all qualities and classes on better form.

More Pigs around, seeing 148 on offer meeting a strong trade throughout.

A few less Calves on offer but trade remains strong with the top of the market being £412 for a British Blue Bull.

Maybe the last summer’s day of the year in Leek today seeing plenty of buyers around the rings.

1025 Lambs entered, seeing a solid trade with

well-bred sorts attracting strong bidding. Best big Lambs grossing £148/head.

Slightly less pigs around compared to last week with 117 on offer and trade a little sharper overall.

176 Calves on offer with trade outstanding for the best sorts and lots of smaller Calves looking well sold with four over the £430 mark.

A similar entry of Barren Cows to last week with more entries needed to meet demand.

A good entry of Dairy Cattle this week with something for everyone from older cows through to newly calved Heifers as well as In-Calf and youngstock.

A fresh Calved Heifer from P & M Critchlow from Cubley topped at £1740 for a pedigree Heifer. Three others topped £1600. A run of In-Calf Heifers from University of Nottingham sold for £1340 to £1440.
